If You Don't Win the First One...

Bad news for the Weber Ave Poker crew. Peeker643 KingX took down the first Weber Avenue League event this past Thursday night at Western Lake County's premier poker venue. The guy apparently means business as Season IV V gets under way.

Peeker outlasted Goose and Surly Dawn King and Junior opted for the cash split and played an open hand for the points after they outlasted The Captain to take away the $120 $190 and the 1st & 2nd place points.

Moreso than that, he's now got one more first place finish this season than he had all of last year.

Playing the high quality poker that has come to define his game, he was able to dodge the normal minefield of fools and idiots to give himself a chance late. No matter that he knobbed Goose his lovely wife (sort of, but not really - he got it in with the best!) on the a deciding hand, nor that he rivered a 3 to take out the Tahoe Kid. It is what it is.

Lead Pipe The Dutchess bubbled in 4th place when his her 10's A-5o failed to improve against Peeker's QQ KingX's 44.

Players arrived to find yet another improvement this season at the place affectionately known as "The Garage Mahal".  The 'Sanitation Station' is now fully functional with both a Purell dispenser as well as a towel dispenser. Players, please take note that these things are there for you to use, not ignore. An upgraded refigerator/freezer has been installed, so help yourself to some frozen lima beans or pot pies as you see fit.

Week 2 action this Thursday. You may want to get together and rustle up a bounty to try and snap Peeker KingX off before he puts this thing away.

2008 Weber Avenue Poker Texas Hold 'Em League

2008 GIACOMO DAY RESULTS

What a night to wrap up Season IV action. It was fireworks early and often at the grand finale. When it was all said and done the hottest player in poker took down the title and the coveted clip. Josh White gathered boatloads of chips early and often and out lasted The Outlaw to become only the 4th Weber Avenue player to collect a clip in the glorious 4 year history of Weber Avenue poker.

Not only did Josh win that clip he was seeking but he took down a nice wad of cash to boot. $470 was shipped to Mr. White. Junior took home $235 for his 2nd place finish plus an additional $50 for his high hand of the night, 4 beautiful aces. He needed those aces too. He and Tim got it all in with 6 people left. The Tahoe Kid turned over KK and was looking good for as long as it took Junior to show the AA. Another ace on the turn and one more on the river knocked Tim out on the bubble.

Lead Pipe was the next to go but he made the money ($80) with his 5th place finish. Goose finished 4th for $105. Peeker broke his Giacomo Day cashing cherry with a 3rd place finish good for $160. He did it without a single kill.

The top 5 weren't the only beneficiaries on the evening. The Reed family of Madison received $175 from the generous Weber Avenue Poker crew. The Reed family lost their patriarch on Christmas Eve of last year and recently the two children, Abby and Winnie, were diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. The $175 will go toward a gift card from Wal-Mart where the family can get groceries, gas, clothes or whatever will help them most.

The players also sat down to an outstanding steak, potato, asparagus and salad dinner topped off by Surly Dawn's outstanding Boston Cream Pie. Unbelievable chow. Great, great job by Tim in selecting, preparing and cooking the eats. The dinner break ended with the annual award ceremony where Robby took down the 'Good Guy' award, Mimi received the 'Dealer of the Year' prize package including some Titleist Pro V's that she immediately turned into cash. Goose was 'Most Improved', Dawn 'won' the 'Shittiest Dealer' award and Tim took down the coveted 'Knob of the Year' trophy. Pipe's Garage was again voted 'Facility of the Year', Eric, Brian and Pipe split (again) 'Boardmember of the Year' honors and Goose and Amy were voted 'Smokers of the Year'.

All league members also walked out with good looking Weber Avenue Poker wearables courtesy of AllCustomGear.com.

Great night, great group of people.

Season IV -- Week 30

This is the end...
And so we close the book on another glorious season at Weber Avenue Poker.  As always, a good time was had by all, and everyone is left with that empty feeling in the pit of their stomach (or perhaps it's that "not-so-fresh" feeling, as it were), left wanting more.
But as we all know, all good things must come to an end.

So, until next season -- Like my grandma used to say, "May All Your Live Cards Be Stars, And Keep Reaching For The Monsters..." no, wait...  I f*%#ed that up... I don't know, she was old and senile and ...........

Talk About A Late Charge!

Josh has turned up the heat down the back stretch with back-to-back wins and 5 cashes in a row, vaulting himself into 2nd Place for the 2nd half of the season.  I hate to even mention the 19 KILLS over that run to take a commanding lead in the Assassin race.  Can anyone stop him, or will he ride this wave right into Derby Day?  Someone better step up!

Well, we went Old School this week - no technology.  No laptop computing machines, no fancy-schmancy timers, no League Founders or CEOs, no new-age hand sanitizer dispensers.  And even though Josh was gracious enough to host Weber Ave Throwback Night, that karma certainly didn't come back to him, as everything else stayed EXACTLY the same!

Same old 3-outer river knob-outs, same old steaming-turning-to-tilting, same old HORRIBLE calls paying off big-time for the "player" with the guts to push the chips in the middle.  All you Weber Ave league members should be VERY proud of yourselves for, first of all, inviting the Captain back to the table, and second of all, allowing said Captain to completely roll over you like you weren't even there!

In what had to be a Weber Avenue Poker double-record-breaking performance, the wanna-be "Big Shooters" looked like cap pistols in the face of Captain PD, as he dispatched of no fewer than 7 "players" in no less than 3 hours and 30 minutes!  At least he was kind enough to have everyone at home and on their couch in time to catch the tail end of Celebrity Apprentice.

Congratulations Captain!

Congrats to the Outlaw for cracking the ever-elusive
"10 Hundreds" Lifetime Earnings Mark!!!
With his 2nd Win in as many weeks, 3rd Win in the last 4 weeks, and 4th cash in the last 5 weeks
(and 5th miracle suckout on the river in the last 6 hands played, but who's counting, really?),
it begs the question - Can anyone stop this guy?  Please?!?!

Season IV -- Week 9

Board Takes Dead Money to the Wood Shed

The Weber Avenue Executive Board not only runs the best tournies in town, but they crush them as well.

Week #9 was just such an example as Lead Pipe, Eric and Peeker swept the top 3 spots in a dominating display of card playing skill. After clearing out the rabble the table was down to five players with the Board, Amy and Dawn. Dawn and Amy were about even with 4500 chips when disaster struck the surliest member of the league. At the last hand of the 150-300 level Amy raised to $1400. Dawn re-raised all in with AK. Amy made the call with AQ and runner-runnered straight cards to give her T9000in chips at the 200-400 color-up. Just like that, a co-chip leader was eliminated.

Players, this one was a head scratcher all the way around. How you can re-raise all in with a hand that trails even the lowliest pair in the pocket, and do so against the only person at the table who can take you down, is beyond me. How you can call the re-raise with a shit hand like AQ is even more questionable. Nothing wrong with calling with the AK, taking a flop and tossing away your cards if you don't hit. That keeps you in the game and keeps you 2nd in chips. But I digress.

Amy won the hand and was the table captain.

For about 5 minutes and then she was busted.

She lost T2200 to Peeker when he raised all-in with A9 suited against her 66 and a 9 flopped with nothing more. Then she lost another re-raised pot to Lead Pipe when she called off about T$3500 with A5 to Lead's A10. Pipe finished her off a few hands later and we were at the money. After a level or so of three handed play, Peeker raised to $2k with A10 and Pipe called the bet. A flop of A 6 X sealed Peeker's fate when Pipe bet and Peeker raised all-in only to see Lead turn over a set of sixes. Lead dodged runner-runner clubs for the win and then he and Eric dueled it out for the top prize. Eric couldn't hit a hand, Pipe did and after abut 20 minutes Lead was pocketing the first place cake.

Season IV -- Week 8
-- NEW 2008 SEASON HIGH HAND TO DATE --
ERIC - QUAD ACES
(UNDER PROTEST - "Flash" Walters played out a winning hand using a K High Straight to take out a player.  Only AFTER the hand was won, and TWO 3rd party, disinterested (in the truest sense of the word) observers told her that she actually, in fact, had not only a Flush, but a Straight Flush to the K, did she try to claim THAT as the new high hand.  The case is currently being heard by the League Rules Committee)

Robbie Takes it Down

Robbie outlasted Roger and lead Pipe last night in Weber Ave Week IV action last night at the Garage Majal. Robbie took a ton of ton chips from Roger when the action got to four handed, after Surly Dawn re-raised all-in on a draw against the only hip stack capable of taking her down and out. This being an educational and learning site, as well as for entertainment purposes, let me remind you players of a couple things:

1. Calling re-raises with an AK or an AQ is a very bad idea. What kind of decision are you going to have when you hit your ace, king or queen there and get re-raised by a potential set?

2. Re-raising all-in on a draw against the one stack that has you covered when you're four-handed is an even bigger mistake than #1.

3. Even loose-aggressive players are going to be dealt big hands as often as anybody else. So although you may feel Roger or Lubber is raising with crap (and often times they are) they're still going to pick up a monster occasionally when you decide to take your stand.

4. Complaining about being sucked out when you have 400 chips going all-in and having three people call because the odds are right does not constitute a bad beat. It constitutes bad chip management on your part to get down that far to begin with.

5. Having a few thousand in chips at the 150-300 mark or above, and with just 5 or 6 players remaining, doesn't mean you can skate into the money. It means you have enough chips to force some action and make lower stacks make some decisions.

Those are this week's lessons players. Like every other lesson, these will roll off the backs of many like water off a duck's ass.

Congrats to Robbie, Roger and Pipe for finishing in the money.

Peeker643 Getting Bored With Winning

Another Weber Avenue league event, another Weber Avenue league victory by Peeker643. No one in league history has opened a season by winning the first two events.

Until now.

Peeker643 got lucky once and then let nature take over in winning out over Robby (2nd) and Josh (3rd) who also finished in the money. And not only did the guy win his second straight league tournament (and his 3rd straight Weber Avenue event when you recall he won the inaugural Weber Cup event a month back) but he did so while dealing a nearly flawless game.

The biggest hand of the night for Peeker came when Josh raised with AA and Peeker re-raised all in with AK. Being an 11-1 underdog meant nothing after the flop of KK7. But don’t tell yourselves the guy was a card rack. Mimi knobbed Peeker’s AA after her 77 flopped a set and took half Peeker’s stack. That was after Mimi knobbed Surlier Dawn’s AA with her 77 when a 7 spiked down on the river. The consensus at the table was that Surly Dawn simply misplayed her hand. I’d have to agree. I’d also have to say that Surly’s short arms better find a way to get her damn bets into the middle of the table instead of 4 inches away from the rail. Especially since she’s making one on pretty much every hand.

But I digress.

As usual, Eric finished on the bubble. Not until after he bent himself over on the final ‘chip up’ of the night and put all his black chips into the case. Those are the kind of the things that put you square into the mix as far as Knob of the Year is concerned.

Until next week folks. Someone try and bring a decent effort next week. Otherwise, just mail Peeker $10 each and stay home and spend an evening with the family.
